Darrins amp has an interesting story. He acquired a Fender Custom Shop Two -Tone on the day I was meeting him at the shop to start planning his new amp build and decided to bring it along to show me. As I walked in to the store, Darrin and a few others were standing around the Two-Tone laughing and there was a hint of an o-zone smell and light smoke in the air. What I had missed by mere minutes was the amp going up in smoke as Darrin was playing through it. It sounded as if I had missed quite a sizzling display of fireworks.
So.....we pulled the chassis and tossed it up on the bench. After discovering that it was nothing more than a standard off the shelf Blues Jr. in a fancy cabinet, we found the following hole burned in the PCB.
After I had repaired the area of the not so flameproof 1/4 watt chassis shorting resistor(where at least a 1/2 watt should have been) and continued to manually wire the PCB back together we fired it up. The amp had it's original tone back but was anything but quiet with all the sizzle and pop you would expect from an 1/8th inch thick PCB with a hole partially burned through multiple traces. And so it was..........Darrin had his parts project for his new amp and he opted for my Bristol circuit. When he showed up to pick up his new baby, I asked him if he wanted any of the pulled original parts(transformers, board, pots, sockets, speakers etc), He did the following.
On a more serious note, The Red Fang and Weber 10F150 worked extremely well in the amp. I'll be doing more 12x10's in the future for sure.
