Shown above named for Grady Cross' son Slaid, The Contour 44 was inspired by attempting to create an amp that bridged the gap between vintage British cleans and modern British crunch and sustain at any volume level desired. The amp is solid state rectified, has a vintage British preamp section, a post phase inverter master volume that is out of the circuit when turned wide open, and a modern high voltage British output section with negative feedback that can run 6L6GC's or EL34's. Conservatively rated at 44 watts it can sing like an early 60's British design with breakup at 5-6 on the volume knob, or can crunch and sustain like a late 70's early 80's British design. This is an extremely versatile amp that can play with any amount of saturation at lower volume levels if desired.
