Richard wanted a Plexi style amp with a few modifications. This design is loosly based on a 50 Watt 1987 Plexi design with a modified turret board layout, built on my custom chassis which has two inputs vice the traditional four, a switch to tie the two together with an internal jumper, four preamp slots for reverb or tremolo if so desired, and an external bias pot with test points. Components are Mallory 150, JJ, F&T and CDE caps, Ohmite and Vishay Dale metal film resistors. The iron is Mercury Magnetics with an O50JM output transformer. The finished product runs JJ EL34's and 12AX7's in to a Custom WeberVST 60 watt "British" voiced Alnico 15" thet Ted made just for this project. Several component tweeks (most in the preamp and phase inverter section) make this amp stand out from the traditional plexi and it does cleans extremely well for an EL-34 based amp. This amp sounds extremely rich and harmonic. It can easily do clean Blues, compressed Jazz, and a huge array of Rock tones extremely well. This amp became my first production amp After playing it for a month Matt wrote me a few words with follow the pics.

Hey Craig, I just wanted to drop you a line to say that the amp is still going strong. I've gotten a lot of comments about how great it sounds. I recently a/b'ed it with a '71 JMP for kicks. The JMP was a little bit louder and more "in your face", whereas the Collins plexi is more compressed and sweeter-sounding, although it can also do the "cranked Marshall" thing really well. Overall, my amp is more versatile and sounds MUCH better at lower volume than the Marshall. I love it! Have a great weekend. Regards, Richard p.s.-How's your schedule look? I may have another project for you in a few weeks.
